Nicholas: new hurricane reaches the southern US

Port of Houston suspended activities on Monday and Tuesday

Hurricane season continues to lash the Atlantic coast of the United States. This Tuesday, Nicholas, a new phenomenon, touched the ground in Texas as a category 1 hurricane, before losing vigor and continuing as a tropical storm, still with 112 km/h winds, according to CNN, rain and flood.

There are widespread rains and storms across the western Gulf of Mexico; in Texas, where 130,000 were left without electricity, and in part of Louisiana, a state that has barely recovered from the passage of Hurricane Ida.

Since yesterday, the Port of Houston has suspended activities, prohibiting the docking of ships. The forecast was that the port would reopen by the end of this Tuesday. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the storm could raise water levels by as much as 1.5 meters.

Port downtime can affect LCL and FCL services. In a market that is already in a space crisis, with a shortage of containers due to a repressed demand since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, the stoppage could represent even more dammed demand and the possibility of delays. Craft monitors the situation and is already studying solutions for possible impacts. If in doubt, write to us.
